Dowry Designs combines the classic urban chic of New York with the boldness and color of Shanghai.
Born and raised in Manhattan, designer Christin Holzer studied Architectural Design at Princeton University and moved to Shanghai to pursue her career. Inspired by the vibrant lifestyle along with the collision of east versus west and modern versus traditional, she discovered her passion for designing clothes while abroad. This influence of contrasts, combined with Holzer’s personal eclectic style, creates the foundation for Dowry Designs. The junction results in a fantastic wardrobe for the modern global woman who is both a CEO and trendsetter.
Dowry Designs was founded in 2009, specializing in custom design for private clientele. The brand has since expanded to ready-to-wear, debuting its first Spring/Summer 2011 collection in luxury boutiques across the US.
Dowry Designs works with individual stores to find optimal fabric and color combinations for their customers. The attention to detail in design, partnered with immaculate hand-tailored garments, produces a style both distinctive and flattering.
Dowry Designs’ Spring/Summer 2012 collection features hand-dyed indigo cotton, a 3000 year-old art form that originated on the Silk Road. Thai silk-piped jackets in vibrant indigo cotton and mustard yellow linen combine with earth-tone silk/cotton shirts and dresses to form the backbone of the new Spring/Summer line. Coats, jackets, blazers and dresses are transformed from everyday items into eye-catching, beautiful works of art. Each garment is lined or piped in a brightly colored silk or silk/cotton, the signature of Dowry Designs, which comes to life with the popping of a collar or the rolling of a cuff.
